in the state of the city address amid new polls that residents could be having a change of heart on higher taxes. now a preview of that. >> the mayor will build his state of the city address around a word that normally no one wants to hear, taxes. tonight, the mayor 8 call on community leaders to organize a campaign for city seals tax -- sales tax to restore money to city workers who took cuts. residents are willing to pay new taxes with 70 percent support for a .25 sales tax increase and 57 percent for half a cent sales tax increase. the earliest this would be on the ballot is next year. folks here in san jose have voted four times to aprove sales tax increases since the mayor has taken office back in 2007 and it is not clear if another will fly. we will find out tonight when the mayor makes his state of the city address tonight. >> right now we have breaking news to tell you about in southern california. three police officers have been shot, two in riverside and one in corona. this is over riverside where the police department says an officer was killed. reports say the shootings could b

to the 100 block of glamor city place. when they arrived they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. they were rushed to the hospital and expected to survive. police say this was a drive by shooting officers say the vehicle where the gunshots came from was a black suv. police say it appeared words were exchanged between the victims and whoever was in that suv the shooting has unsettled the people who live here. >> surprised. but i was sleeping last night and then my wife heard shots and she woke up and she was telling me that somebody got shot and i heard the cops outside. >> reporter: police say the shooting is possibly gang related. they will find out more once they interview the victims at the hospital. officers are there standing by. this is the second drive by shooting that happened over night. about one hour later a mile away near doben and jackson avenue. shots were fired in that neighborhood. we are told those bullets hit a car and home. no one was injured. they are not sure if those two drive by shootings are related. coming up later in the newscast, w

in san francisco. but next season will be the teams last at the stick. the city has announced plans to demolish the stadium after the team moves south to its new home in santa clara. kron 4's charles clifford has more >> reporter: candlestick parks sits about 5 and a half miles south of downtown san francisco. the stadium was built in the late fifties as a home for the san francisco giants, the 49ers started using it in 1971. the giants moved out in 2000 and the next nfl season will be candlesticks last. for more than fifty years candlestick park has been home to sports, concerts, and more than a few memorable moments, among the highlights was the 1989 loma prieta earthquake, which shook the stadium on live television during the world series. there was also this pass from joe montana to dwight clark, which was immortalized as the catch that sent the 49ers to superbowl 16. candlestick park is currently run by the san francisco recreation and parks department, but after the 49ers play there last game here next season, developer lennar urban will take over. lennar is the same company t

was beaten. >> it is 4:34. redwood city schools are plang safety drills in the wake of the newtown, connecticut school shooting. the police department announced this week it wants to send daily patrol offers to visit schools and plans to run a drill for the schools in the fall. the drill would simulate a lockdown with an active shooter on campus including loud speaker announcements, barricading doorss and covering windows. some schools are conducting such drills. this is what happened at a modesto school this week. in this simulation, two gun men opened fire on students. they lie on the ground covered in fake blood. officers shot one suspect while another hid in a classroom. s.w.a.t. team members went room to room searching. it drew criticism saying the newtown, connecticut shooting is still too fresh. planning for the drill actually began in august, before that tragedy. several months before the tragedy. >> all eyes are on the boy scouts of america today. the organization's national executive board meeting in texas where they are considering reversing the long-standing bay on gay

a deadly shooting that happened just a few hours ago. they tell us a man was shot in the city's western edition. alex savidge is live there now. what can you tell us so far? >> reporter: we are getting very limited information from police this morning. that is because it's so early on in this investigation. a sergeant that was out here confirmed a man was shot and killed. he was found right over near this corner. near the intersection of hayes and webster. an anonymous caller reported gunfire in this area around 2:00 this morning. we'll show you that video. officers were out here for most of the morning. police tell us the victim was rushed to the hospital after suffering at least one gunshot wound. he died there from his injuries. homicide investigators searching for the shooter involved here. a sergeant told me they don't have a description on the person to put out. in just a couple minutes ago i talked to one woman who told me she heard one gunshot and saw this crime scene. >> it sounded like a gunshot and i knew somebody was dead. police know that sound. it's bad. >> reporter: so as
